Rick Miller, vice president and chief information officer, is responsible for supporting the technology initiatives for mission-critical clinical, education, research and administrative functions of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.

Rick joined the UT Health Science Center in 1987 as the assistant vice president for information services. He currently is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all administrative, academic and clinical technology, telecommunications, wide area networking, local area networking, desktop support, IT security, disaster recovery planning, applications training and support, and records management. The directors of information technology at the university’s six schools have a dual reporting relationship to Miller and their deans.

He was named chief information officer in October 2005 after serving as the interim chief information officer for a year during which all of the campus information technology-related positions were restructured under the chief information officer.

Rick's 32 years of professional work experience include positions at:

• General Homes Corporation
• KPMG (formerly Peat, Marwick, Mitchell and Co.)
• Schlumberger Well Services.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
